2008 Extramural Student Awards and Invited Talks

  • Lauren Van Duyn won a $500 travel award at the recent American Society for Matrix Biology Meeting (San Diego, CA), December 2008. Her poster was titled "Calreticulin is upregulated in areas of injury and plays a role in collagen regulation". She was one of ten awarded from over 250 posters presented.
  • Chris Yuskaitis gave a talk at the Society for Neuroscience (Washington, D.C.), November 2008. "Glycogen Synthase Kinase-3 regulates microglial migration, inflammation, and inflammation-induced neurotoxicity".
  • Nicole Brossier won a Histochemical Society Travel Award and an American Society for investigative Pathology to Experimental Biology 2008 (San Diego, CA), April 2008. Talk Title "Classic Ras and R-Ras function in neurofibromatosis type 1- associated malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors".
  • Louise Pyle gave the President's Address at the Medical Students for Choice Annual Meeting (St. Paul, MN), April 2008. "North American Medical Reproductive Health Curricula Today: Why I Love Curricula, and So Should You"
  • Yawar Qadri was awarded a $2,500 Seed Grant from the American Medical Association Foundation for his project exploring potential new drug targets for stroke patients (April 2008). Yawar was among 47 young investigators throughout the nation awarded grants to further their research in the areas of cardiovascular/pulmonary diseases, HIV/AIDS, leukemia, neoplastic diseases and exposure to tobacco smoke.
